Heza Hills, Washed
Red cherry & stewed red fruits with orange blossom.
This collaborative effort between Heza Washing Station and local smallholder farmers is part of a relationship we’ve nurtured with Long Miles Coffee in Burundi since 2015. From the start, our shared goal has been to source exceptional coffee while supporting meaningful, community-driven impact across the hills of northern Burundi. Heza means ‘beautiful place’, and with sweeping views of the East African sky, the station lives up to its name. Built into a cliff at the foot of Gitwe Hill, Heza is remote—but surrounded by a resilient farming community. From its vantage point, you can see the Rwandan border and the edge of Burundi’s last indigenous rainforest. The station works with farmers across multiple nearby hills, each with unique micro-climates, producing coffees that are as distinct as the land they come from. The ideal growing conditions, combined with careful processing, result in a flavour profile that bursts with red cherry and stewed red fruits, lifted by a delicate touch of orange blossom.
