Thunguri, Washed
Vine ripened tomato, dried cranberries & sparkling cola.
Thunguri is a classic example of why Kenyan coffees continue to captivate coffee lovers around the world. Produced by the Kibirigwi Farmers Co-operative Society, this washed lot brings together the hard work of 6,888 smallholder farmers, many tending plots of just half an acre with around 50 coffee trees each. Grown in Kirinyaga County on the fertile slopes beneath Mount Kenya, these coffees benefit from rich volcanic soils, cool temperatures and elevations reaching 2,500 metres above sea level. At the Thunguri wet mill, carefully selected cherries are delivered and processed on the same day they're picked. Following fermentation, washing and meticulous drying, the result is a coffee renowned for its clarity, vibrancy and complexity. In the cup, savoury notes of vine-ripened tomato meet the tart sweetness of dried cranberries, while a sparkling cola character brings brightness and intrigue to the finish. Distinctive, lively and unmistakably Kenyan, this is a coffee that rewards curiosity with every sip.
