“We want people to find the things we do wondrous,” said Patricia Cheetham – and she didn’t have to search for very long before she found the perfect site for Wonderlust on Champion Drive in Seville Grove. This is the second café for the hospitality superstar and, with the support of her partner Temira, she highlights what’s important to her.
Caring for people and the environment are strong themes; offering reusable takeaway cups at cost price, creating a pay-it-forward coffee program and supporting the local emergency services are some of the fantastic ways Wonderlust is giving back to their community.
The al fresco area is a great place to sit, drink coffee and (for any small humans) play with the thoughtful toys provided. But, let’s be honest, the best thing about Wonderlust’s location is that they have space for a drive-through. This is a win for those who don’t wish to change out of their slippers to order a coffee, and perfect for those who wish to relax in a space where people aren’t crowding them in their slippers.
Wonderlust’s menu has a little bit of everything. With plenty of vegan and gluten-free options, the menu allows for flexibility which is something Trish is ardent about.
She wants people to be able to try everything without worrying about what they are eating. I was certainly devoid of concern when I dived into my plate of perfectly cooked poached eggs. They were stunning! Adding a side of avo to my Eggs Benny with Bacon was great, albeit ambitious, as the portions are deliciously generous.
The polished, stainless steel body of their sweet 3 group La Marzocco Linea PB catches your eye when you first walk in. Sitting proudly on their antique wooden coffee bench, the machine’s classic lines are complemented by the Mazzer Robur and a sleek Mythos One. Their house blend, Tightrope, features Five Senses’ natural Ethiopian which shines through both milk and black coffee. Their single origin program offers a constantly rotating menu highlighting what is fresh and in season.
Wonderlust is described as ‘the desire to be in a constant state of wonder’, but Wonderlust Café is more than that. With all the love, pride and care on offer, it is indeed a little wondrous.
