Shoreditch Grind in London, multiple venues in New York, The Stables in Surry Hills – and now 212 Blu and Lil 212 in Newtown. It’s safe to say that with seventeen years of experience, Tobin knows the hospo game well. He and his awesome family have put their hearts and souls into 212.
212 Blu
With a menu that was created by Tobin and John Javier, the food is major league!
As Tobin says, “It’s food that we want to eat when we go out for brunch, simple comfort food for everyone”.
Their 212 Toastie is my go to: oozing with sobrassada, tomato relish, Swiss cheese and béchamel, it’s simple and scrumptious. Cass also has her homemade sodas on the menu and they are out of this world. Natural and delectable, they’re a winning combination.
Lil 212
212 know their coffee too. Get it white, black or as a cold brew on tap and you’ll be smiling all the way down King Street. If that doesn’t get you smiling, a Bloody Mary, espresso martini or beers by local brewers might.
212 Blu and Lil 212 aren’t just local institutions in Newtown, but also a hub for the community.
They team up with locals to run events at Newtown Festival and raise money for the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. As Tobin puts it, “Newtown is a melting pot of creative people bound together by this sense of community and acceptance.”
Great coffee, great food and great people – you really won’t be left feeling Blu at 212.
