Sofia, the latest gem in Josh Baker's crown of hospitality ventures is a sit-down cafe and restaurant and whether you're there for a quick coffee or leisurely meal, Sofia welcomes you with open arms. Josh, a seasoned veteran in the hospo industry, is on his fifth venue. With hits like Part Time Lover and Whistle and Flute under his belt, you can bet your bottom dollar that Sofia is the hottest ticket in town.
Named after the late mother of co-owner John Savva, whose kitchen was always open and whose love for cooking was nothing short of legendary. Josh encapsulates this sentiment beautifully,
‘No matter who you are, we want you to feel welcome and at home. Come in, relax, eat, drink, and have a great time'
Inspired by simple flavours and a Mediterranean way of eating, co-owner and Executive Chef Stewart Wesson explains: "We wanted to move away from a really structured set menu style of cooking." With around 25 dishes in the first section alone, Sofia's menu puts the power back in the hands of the guests. The 'Don't Even Think About It' options at lunch and dinner embodies this, where diners get to choose their own culinary adventure. You'll get to pick from signature dishes like a bespoke sopressa, Cypriot sausages and a one-sheet lasagne, all accompanied by the famously fermented pita bread.
What about drinks, you ask? Dark Horse sits in the hopper with a rotating single origin line up for espressos and long blacks as well as a beautifully curated and approachable wine list and fun, spritzy cocktails. And if you're craving something that's not on the list, just ask! Josh assures, "We'll cater to what people want".
