The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Coffee Championships are in full swing and coming up this month, both the North and West of Oz will see baristas throwing down their mad skills to take out top titles.
Mid September saw things kick off with the Southern Regional (VIC & TAS) competitions resulting in some new and some returning champions taking the podium. A big congrats to Jade Jennings returning as regional champ in the barista comps, Aaron Dongsu Shin who took out the tightly contested Latte Art Championship, Devon Loong used his experience as reigning Australian Brewers Cup Champion to take out the regional title and Tom Bomford was back to back champion in the Cup Tasting slurpathon.
Coming up this weekend, on the 8th and 9th October, we’ll see the Northern Regional Competition (QLD & NT) being hosted at Extraction Artisan Coffee in Brisbane (7/3375 Pacific Highway, Slacks Creek QLD) and then, towards the end of the month, the Western Regionals (WA & SA) will be hosted at the Little Italy by the Sea festival in Fremantle, WA on the 29th and 30th of October.
The final Championship event for the Central Eastern region (NSW & ACT) will be hosted at Bare Witness in Sydney (30 Shoreline Drive, Rhodes). The champions from the various competitions at these regional events will have secured themselves a spot in the showdown for the national finals, being once again hosted at the MICE festival in Melbourne on 30th March – 1st April.
