Because Australia's water supply contains a large proportion of ground water, it has high levels of minerals, including calcium and magnesium. These minerals form limescale, which is bad news for your machine.
Limescale reduces the efficiency of the heating elements and blocks up valves and pipes. Isomac has designed a water softener specifically for use in their espresso machines, to reduce the occurrence of limescale and protect your machine. You should replace your water softener regularly — at least every six months. Although a specific Isomac part, this water softener can also be used in various un-plumbed domestic coffee machines drawing water from a vertical tank reservoir, consult your coffee machine’s operation manual when replacing it.
