There’s something in the air besides sea breeze in Fremantle. Upon an unscientific observation, there seems to be an above average amount of smiles bellowing in and around Hush Espresso on Market Street. Which therein begs a more curious question: why do the folks nestled in this area appear to be so darn happy?
At first glance, one might assume that all the excitement is due to the fact that a lengthy and diverse breakfast menu is available all day long. Or is it the wide array of healthy and refreshing smoothies to choose from? Possibly though, and in the opinion of Daniel Leppard, Hush’s owner, it could have something to do with the fact that the city of Fremantle has never seen coffee that tastes this good.
Leppard recalls spending time in Freo a few years back and noticing that he never seemed to be able to find a decent cup of coffee. That coupled with the dream to have his own café, not to mention his passion to deliver the highest quality ingredients possible to his customers (all the way down to the ice cream), has helped to keep his doors open for over two years with people continuously coming back for more.
One of Hush’s proudest achievements has been to successfully engage its customer in the café’s single origin program. Currently boasting a Sumatran Wih Pesam and a Costa Rican Sin Limites Fuego, the program has become so popular with the locals that Hush proudly displays the current offering so that fans of the program will know exactly when they’re being offered something new. The house blend at Hush is mostly a Brazilian bean with sprinkles of Costa Rican and Indonesian varieties which gives it a mostly nutty, cocoa taste with a bright, clean finish.
So whether you’re after a gentle morning breeze, a mocha with melted Belgium chocolate, or the most beautiful roasted cherry tomatoes you’ve seen in your life, you can find all of that and more at Hush Espresso. Good conversation and enthusiasm is almost guaranteed, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself walking out the door accompanied by an unexpected smile.
