If you’re a resident of the Inglewood area, then you’ll be well acquainted with the local café, Betty and Dave’s. If you’re not, then let’s make an introduction!
Betty and Dave’s is the passion project of long time Beaufort Street hospitality veteran, Josh O’Donnell. Having served his time working in iconic venues in both Perth and Melbourne, Josh wanted to put down roots and create something of his own.
Named after his grandparents, Betty and Dave, the café is designed to elicit nostalgia for the vibes of a bygone era. The corner store location and retro-styled interior will take you right back to Sunday afternoons at Grandma’s house. But that’s where the similarities end.
I don’t know many Grandmas who have a three-group Synesso Hydra sitting on their kitchen counter, let alone one in musk pink.
Check it out, the words ‘statement piece’ just don’t do it justice!
Coffee is admirably delivered as the Dark Horse blend, whilst those craving something a little more unconventional will find a single origin grinder which switches things up weekly. My espresso of the Kianjiru from Kenya was outstanding, but that is only to be expected when the baristas are national barista championship winners.
On the subject of outstanding, the food is also spectacular. Featuring all your café favorites, the menu is proof that Josh wasn’t afraid to give his kitchen team the license to push the envelope either. Sweet potato rostis are an unconventional riff on a classic, whilst the soba noodle salad with BBQ pork was a deliciously left field breakfast choice.
If you’ve still got room left for something sweet, a well-stocked cake section will look after you. And just in case you’re feeling guilty, you can walk it all off at the nearby dog park.
Sounds like a perfect Sunday morning, doesn’t it?
